Session 0 - Character Building

My new Dungeons and Dragons group met for a session to build characters so that we can get right into the action for our first session next week. I'll be running the Curse of Strahd module for 4 players, starting at level 1. It looks to be an interesting party, including a chaotic-evil penguin, a chaotic-neutral dinosaur, and an androgynous Tiefling that may attempt to create a Frankenstein like necromancy project on the side.

For two of my players, it will be the second group they have played with, though they did not play much with their previous groups. The other two players have never played before, so it'll be interesting to see how things work out. I am new(ish) to D&D as well, and I will be taking my first steps into the role of the DM. I am excited to get things started, and to see how this crazy party fairs against Strahd. So now, let's meet the party!

Mittens: chaotic-evil Penguin Bard

John Schmidt: chaotic-good Human Fighter

The Indombidable Sam: chaotic-neutral Tiefling Warlock

unnamed: chaotic-neutral Saurian Rouge

The party certainly has its quirks, both Sam and the Saurian took the Charlatan background, and plan to be scam artists, Mittens the penguin is a hopeless romantic whose love was killed by a "pillaging pack of paladins", or so she says, and John Schmidt is named after his godfathers, Jacob and Jingleheimer (who was apparently a reindeer).

I think this party will be an interesting one to go up against Strahd. I plan on having him try to turn Mittens against the party, due to her evil nature. Then again, they are all chaotic, so he may take advantage of that nature as well.

The Silver Hunt - Prelude

The moon gleamed bright over the forest, as the sounds of the evil that was stirring rung out through the trees. A foul creature stalked the underbrush, searching for some unfortunate soul to feast upon, and a man clad in silver followed it. He bore a shield and a mace, both silvered and glimmering unnaturally in the moonlight. His eyes shown like moons themselves, as they scanned through the trees, anticipating the beast's next move. Silas Salhada had been tracking this monster for some time, and he had finally cornered it in these woods. He had set up wards among the trees earlier that would prevent the beast from passing, funneling it into its death. As Silas strode forward, a twig snapped under his foot, and the creature suddenly lashed out towards the sound. There was just enough time for Silas to raise his shield to block the claws of the creature, and he wasted no more time bringing his mace to strike the monster in the jaw. It unleashed a hellish scream that echoed...

Introductions

My name is Callum Maguire, and I have been building worlds since I had the ability to speak. I didn't have a name for what I was doing until just a few years ago, and most of my worlds were either basically fan-fiction or some bizarre amalgamations of other works. It wasn't until I got a bit older than I began to try and build my own worlds in earnest. I have tried to organize my thoughts in several different formats, to mixed results. I'm hoping that this blog will allow me to cultivate my ideas for a number of different worlds. To be honest, I don't think anyone other than me is ever going to actually see this, it's mostly just for my sake. But most of what I write here will be directed to you, the for the most part imaginary reader. If you are indeed a real person, welcome, and I hope you enjoy this glimpse into the insanity that is my mind! Godspeed, Wrenwold
